My art experience began when I was a teen and has remained in the background of my life since. Currently I create in my spare time with painting, mixed media/collage and colored pencils. I’m a writer, a reader, and a lover of all things ephemera (items of collectible memorabilia, typically written or printed ones, that were originally expected to have only short-term usefulness or popularity).
My educational art background includes high school classes in Drawing Intro, Drawing & Design I and II, Commercial Art, and Painting. I was a member of the Arkansas Young Artists Association during my high school years, and received recognition for several of my pieces in competitions. My professional background has consistently been in business and office management.
In 2015 I completed a 3 week Intro to Pottery Class and in Spring 2016 completed a 10 week Intro to Wheel Throwing Pottery Class, both at the Arkansas Art Center. In May 2016 I graduated from Pulaski Technical College with Honors, receiving an Associates of Arts Degree. During college I focused on writing, taking several creative writing courses. After awarded 2nd Place in the PTC Student Essay Contest, my piece was published in their yearly publication.
In 2016 I was a participant in the “Swarm the World” Art Project, representing Arkansas, with a selected photo recently published in the final product of the project, a “Swarm the World” collaborative photo book. In the fall of 2017, I participated in “The Sketchbook Project”, with my finished sketchbook landing a permanent home in the Brooklyn Art Library in New York. Both of these Global Art Projects are both eye opening and powerful in their messages, but what I discover most from participating is how truly connected we all are – and how art plays such an important role in that connection.
I’m the proud momma of the young artist, Emily. We moved from Sherwood to Conway in 2012 and opened the store in July 2016. We are excited to be involved in the arts community here and are happy to call Conway home.
Most Meaningful Piece of Work I’ve Done and Why: “Lizard Lady” Colored Pencil, High School.
This piece was large and painstakingly done in Prismacolor colored pencil. She won a “Barrett Hamilton Award” and received quite a bit of recognition (for my first serious high school art piece). I cherished this piece for years after I graduated…I still do. She was the art piece above my couch – even though she didn’t match it. On a whim, and what I now call my biggest regret, in 1996-97, I sold her to my boss at the time for a mere $200 (which was impressive at the time and for being my first official piece to sell).
I hold out hope that she’s still out there and hanging above a couch she doesn’t match somewhere…and someday I’ll be reunited with her. Last I heard a few years back, she had been given to the nephew of my boss and he was living in Little Rock. So…maybe she still resides in Arkansas. (If you see her hanging around town, please let me know!)
